Drawstring Cast-on for the Loom

Learn the Drawstring cast-on flat and round versions. This is a great technique for many projects. Seems a bit difficult when you first see someone one doing it but after the first try you will be an expert.

Application for the Drawstring Cast-on

For my cute little cat pattern I used both the Round and Flat versions. To make the body I used the round on a 24-peg Knifty Knitter loom. For the tail I only needed a set number of pegs so I used the flat. In this case an odd number of pegs should be used.

Step by Step Instructions

In The Round: Let’s start with the one you will use the most.

Step 1: Secure the yarn. Bring the working yarn behind the first peg.

 

Step 2: Zig-Zag around the loom with the working yarn. Use every other peg.

Step 3: Wrap the working yarn around the loom. Do not e-Wrap the pegs!

Step 4: Knit off the pegs that have 2 loops.

NOTE: If you have a loom with even pegs, the working yarn will be behind the first peg.
If you have an odd number of pegs, the working yarn will be in front of the first peg.

 

For the Flat Version: Best to set an odd number of pegs.

 

Step 1: Secure the yarn. Bring the working yarn behind the first peg.

Step 2: Count the number of pegs needed and then Zig-Zag around the loom with the working yarn. Use those peg.

Step 3: Wrap the working yarn around those pegs only. Do not e-Wrap the pegs!

Step 4: Knit off the pegs that have 2 loops.
